Prititit!

Whistles are blowing and drums are beating, signaling that the Philippines’ biggest street festival is just around the corner. Are you ready to hit the beautifully-adorned streets and experience all the wonders Sinulog has to offer?

Here are a few safety reminders to help you enjoy this most-awaited Cebuano weekend to the fullest:

  1. People from all over the globe come to Cebu to join the festivities, so, more often than not, you will find yourself in a sea of crowd. Be mindful of your surroundings and always keep an eye on your belongings. Better yet, try not to bring or wear anything valuable.

  2. Major roads and streets in some parts of the metro will be closed during the procession and the Grand Parade. Expect to do a lot of walking. With that, dress appropriately. Wear your comfiest pair of shoes. It is also ideal to wear clothes that do not limit your movement.

  3. Since the weather will be unpredictable as always, best to gear up for both rain and heat. Before heading out, don’t forget to put some sunscreen on to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. Bring an umbrella with you too, just in case it suddenly starts to pour.

  4. During the height of the festivities, you will surely find yourself thirsty or hungry, or both at the same time. It is very important to stay hydrated and to have the right sustenance on this day. Only drink bottled water (or bring your own to avoid contributing to unnecessary wastes). For food, choose food places that are following sanitary standards. Food poisoning is very common during this kind of festivities, so, it’s best that you be careful with what you drink and eat.

  5. In the event of an emergency, do not hesitate to call persons of authority to assist you. The city makes it a point that there are police and medics everywhere. You can also keep a list of important hotlines and phone numbers so you know exactly how to reach them.

We hope that with these tips and reminders, you will have the best time this Sinulog weekend.
